These ‘demand responsive’ systems provide extraction only when it is needed, meaning you save money by keeping electricity usage to a minimum. At the heart of our energy-saving installations is the Ecogate® extraction-on-demand system, This monitors the use of each individual processing machine and automatically regulates the speed of the relevant fan unit accordingly. The system uses an Ecogate® greenBOX controller, using motorised gates and sensors at each machine, as well as an Ecogate® PowerMaster to control the main fans.

The amount of power required for each fan is determined by the opening and closing of the motorised gates. This ensures only the exact amount of power that is needed is actually used, avoiding any energy wastage.

A great example of this technology at work was a complete energy-saving system that we designed and installed for Willerby Holiday Homes, a Hull-based manufacturer of luxury holiday homes.

The dust extraction system comprises an externally-sited EcoVar 2030 modular chain filter with a total airflow volume of 135,000m3/hour that handles the dust and chips from a total of 40 machines. The new energy-efficient system employs three 55kW direct-drive main fan units, replacing the previous three 75kW belt-driven fans.

The filter includes a rotary valve discharge into a 15kW fan-powered closed-loop waste transfer system, which feeds waste directly into two large capacity boxcarts.
